Tree Smart - Be Inspired

I am in dire need of inspiration. Ton's of ideas, no execution. It's killing me. To make things short, the latest project is to draw - for a postcard exchange. Been ages since I've picked up a pencil. I miss those yellow pencils (can't really find them in Malaysia, wish I had bought a box from the US) but we get 2B pencils here. Remember those pencils we used to answer objective questions. Yeah, I miss those.

Found something interesting that spiked up some life to my inspiration on the net yesterday. Thought I'd like to share it with you. Pick up that pencil and start sketching. Here's a cool environmental pencil by Tree Smart. It's made out of old newspapers. How cool is that! Want to grab one soon...Here's the process of making these pencils. Check it out!

Hello World!

Don't ask...let's just say that the past few months life has been hectic and this space has become so dusty, I need a feather duster. Hachoo! Me and dust just don't click.

So many things to share yet limited time combined with a bit of laziness has caused all this. I am writing up my travelogue paired with the awesome lomo pics just for you. Patience is virtue.

As an appetizer, let me just share a few kitchen tips that I found handy from the net.

Since coming back from Cardiff and London, my head has been bugging me with images of the atmosphere there. I wish so much to go there again. I'm crazy about it! In the mean time, I'm only able to admire UK & Europe via images taken by others. Was really interested with Paris and look at what I found - Yannick Charifou Photography! I love this lifestyle themed image with the Eiffel Tower as the background. Inspiration burst!

Good day lads!!

I am here in the land of Barclays Premier League and am saying my final goodbye by sitting and looking out the windows watching the planes take off one by one. Such a lovely sight it is. Of my 7 days in this monarchy country, I have seen and done so many things that I would love to share with the world. But that will have to wait for another day. How To Shoot Film For Dummies: 5 Steps

(or how to wing it with a camera you don’t know how to use)

If you’ve never shot film before, or if you’re working with a camera you don’t really know how to use, there are shortcuts to help you get to the gratification of shooting without so many calculations. Obviously, these are shortcuts and do not replace actual learning, but they can definitely helpful for trying out a film camera that you have never used before.

1. Shoot black and white: black and white film is way more forgiving, you have a full 5 stops of “error margin” that will still capture information. With color negative film you have 3, and with slide film you have 1 1/2 (this is in part why slide film is considered “professional” since it requires an exact exposure). If you don’t know what you’re doing or you don’t know your camera yet, you are much more likely to end up with printable images if you shoot black and white.

2. Shoot in broad daylight outside: maybe not high noon, but shoot during the day when there’s plenty of light. Low light situations are tricky, so avoid shadows and interiors at first or you’ll probably end up with a super underexposed roll, and that sucks. This is a major one for me when I test out vintage cameras, because you can also see if there are any leaks in the seals or foam and get a clear sense of the definition at a higher f-stop.

3. Use the Sunny 16 Rule: If you don’t know how to use your meter, or it doesn’t work, or you don’t have one, this trick is a life-saver.

“On a sunny day set aperture to f/16 and shutter speed to the [reciprocal of the] ISO film speed.”

Let me translate (dummy style just in case): f/16 is an aperture number on the lens, shutter speed is on top, and ISO is the number printed on the film. For example, Ilford Delta 400 has an ISO of 400. [I’ve posted articles explaining aperture and ISO for those who are interested]

An example of the Sunny 16 Rule would be: For film with an ISO of 100, aperture at 16 and shutter speed at 1/100 or 1/125 (depending on your camera)

ISO 400 would be f/16 at 1/500 (unless your camera miraculously has 1/400)

Here’s a handy daylight exposure guide guide from the inside of some Fuji Provia (ISO 100):

4. Bracket: This is a technique taught in ALL photography classes, and it’s actually pretty useful if you really want to be sure to get “the shot.” Basically, shoot one stop at the “correct” exposure, then shoot one stop up and one stop down. For example, if you were following the Sunny 16 Rule (and you really, really, really wanted to be sure to have a great photo) you could bracket like so:

ISO 400 - 1 shot @ f/16, 1/500; 1 shot @ f/22, 1/500, 1 shot @ f/11, 1/500

(you could also bracket by changing the shutter speed instead of the aperture)

5. Avoid Portraits (just at first): I know, I know this sounds horrible, but really if you’re learning how to use film (or a new camera) the biggest challenge is exposure. And portraits usually require perfect exposure and great lighting. If you’re not great with exposure and lighting, you may be disappointed with your first portraits.

It's like automatic, my eyes will open at 6.20pm everyday. Hate it cause it's hard to sleep in during weekends. Hey, I need to enjoy my bachelor life...So I guess that means I'm a morning person..

Spelling I can live with but wrong grammar is like stabbing me in the heart! Really can't take it. Example: 1) Thats means 2) I will break her a message afterwards (WTF does that mean?? *Faint*)

Side & back. No tummy..

16. What is your favorite TV show?
I love Bones! Booth & Bones are totally made for each other.

17. What is the weather like?
It has been raining since morning...I want to sleep...

Found out that I can be shy shy cat sometimes...hihihi...

I don't remember my dreams. If I do remember them, it's only a small portion of it.

I Am Number Six

Who amongst you have watched the I Am Number Four? Yeah Alex Pettyfer is cute and yeah he has a great body but what attracted me in the movie was Agron's collection of vintage cameras. By the way, Dianna really looked like a sissy in that movie. I would really much to be like Number Six. The red bike really said everything. The girl's got spunk. Anyways, did some research and found some of the cameras that were used in the movie. I hope that my days to go outstation will come soon so I can get hold of a SX-70 & Canon A-1. Maybe a birthday with tulips around perhaps. So, checkout the cameras:

Just saw this okay movie, but the exciting part was seeing all the vintage film cameras the female lead brought out during the course of the movie! Here are the main ones to the best of my recollection.

1. Nikon F 35mm SLR (1959-1973); It's obviously a Nikon F series, but the prism seems marked "1F". I'll have to check it out later to verify.

2. Hasselblad 500 C/M 120mm SLR (1964-Present); The character is shown holding this very expensive camera (or a similar Hassy) in a rather anachronistic fully decked out camera store in her small rural town. Check out the large Kodak boxes on the shelf behind the counter!

3. Canonet 28 series 35mm Rangefinder (1962-1980); She gives this one to the main character to take his own photos along with a roll of B&W film in a _metal_ canister...talk about retro. She also describes the cool way it's "light leaks" affects it's photos. Even lomography gets mentioned in this movie!

4. Ricoh XR-X 3PF (possibly some other newish 35mm SLR; not sure) (1964-1977); She is shown taking photos at the fair with this camera.

Woke up in the middle of the night feeling so pissed off and hurt. I'm not sure why. Was it a nightmare or dream I just had? My blood was boiling hot alright. After a quick timeout to the bathroom to take my wuduq' and pray, I feel better now. Although I can't sleep, cause I have this problem if I wake up in the middle of the night it's going to be hard to fall back to sleep. So what else to do but watch Glee! Always puts a smile on my face. However much I liked the Valentine's episode, I hate Flyn & Quinn for suddenly hooking up together. Urgh...

Talking about Valentine's Day, NO - I don't celebrate it but I share the darling atmosphere of sharing love between people you care. It's the thought that counts, hence you must know where your faith stands so that you do not do the unwanted. Never the less, sharing the spirit is not an issue. We are after all a multiracial country. *Thumbs up!*

Gosh, I've strayed from my story - I still remember Valentine's Day celebration back in 3rd Grade. Everyone had a valentine box glued to the edge of their desk. We passed around valentine cards or candy and put it into their valentine box. So much fun!! After recess we would open our boxes and check out our stash. The cards there are so pretty and cool. Am wondering why we can't find that level of creativity here. More pressure on me to be more creative I guess. Anyways, I got 2 cards from the same guy. Yeah - guy, as in Nathan (I can't remember his last name, Nathan Scott would be nice right!). He was tall and had chestnut brown hair that glittered when the sun was glaring. I asked him why did he give me 2 cards? He said he wanted too... auw shucks...I thanked him, smiled, turned and I think I sort of blushed. Hahahaha...laugh all you want...Anyways, it felt nice. So this year no card nor call, just the remembrance of the feelings. But I would like to express my love for my analogue passion. Lomography.com had this special contest on who could create great love poems and I really had to share this. Here is goes:

Let's Cook Up A Storm

More on my cooking escapade. Truthfully, I am so damn sick of all the food I have at restaurants or mamaks. It's like a cycle of ordering nasi goreng kampung, nasi goreng pataya, mee goreng, etc. I've had it!! I'm going nuts just thinking about it. I need nutritious food. In other words, I just need home cooked food. Doesn't have to be those complicated dishes, the simple fried egg with soy sauce and plain rice would be just heaven at this minute. As you can see in my previous post, I finally came around to go grocery shopping to buy some veggies. I think what I lack most in my diet now are veggies. At home we would have 2 veggie dishes during a meal and I miss that. So I whipped up a simple dish - a salad or the Malaysian version called kerabu. Yummy!! There are many types of kerabu - mango, kacang botol, paku pakis, sotong, perut. It's basically a 'campak-campak' dish and you can mix in anything you want. I prefer tons of veggie. My favourite kerabu would be kerabu daun selom & kerabu sotong. However, this time I opted for kerabu peria. For my dear friend Fara and everyone else, here's the recipe:

Kerabu Peria
-------------

1 peria/bitter gourd (I used half 2 people) - sliced very thinly

1 bunga kantan/ginger flower or torch ginger bud - sliced very thinly (mayang)

1 red chilli (you can use cilipadi too)
3 limau kasturi/lime juice (depends on the taste)
a pinch of salt

Instructions:

Slice the peria very thin. Soak it with water and salt for 3/4 minutes. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Put all the ingredients in a big bowl and mix well. Have a quick taste in case you need to add more salt of lime juice.
Walla! Your kerabu is done. Serve with other dishes with mix rice or eat it by it's own (for those on diet). Bon appétit!

Check this out:

Flutter in Pinhole is a project that combines polaroid and pinhole together. Thus, taking the concept to a higher level. It works as a fold-out camera postcard. From the video, I am guessing that you will get the Flutter in Pinhole camera once you purchase a polaroid. I love this camera because it's made out of cardboard/paper, it's recyclable and it has a social sentimen/intent too. If you want to know more, watch the video.

My research says that these beauties are still not available in the market. They are actually prototypes. I hope we can get them soon, they are to die for! I quote from guusdehoog - 'Don’t let it’s fun and toy-like appearance fool you: this little camera system (because you can buy as many as you would like to use) is an ideal memo, note or postcard tool for those of you who would like to add some creativity or personality to your messages. Another Year Has Gone By...

It's 2011! OMFG! It means this year I will be one year older yet still be 16 years old. Oh, stop being jealous =)

I ain't gonna rant too much but would like to start my first post of the year (after 12 days now only I'm writing) with my favorite activity - Lomography. P/S: Images are taken via Diana Mini with Lomography 100 or Kodak 400 film =)

Let's see how I wrapped up the end of 2010. December was full of weddings! Here is the lovely Shahanum, my deskmate during the Convent days. Had the best time of my life with this lady. Now she is an Add Math teacher (OMG - how we hated Add Math those days). Terer badminton dia ni...

Since Anum's wedding was in Teluk Intan, my beloved hometown and her house was near our school, we (Tuty & me) decided to drop by and snap pictures. I have tons of them on my dslr but it's all analog here baby! Here you go - my alma mater SM Convent, Teluk Intan (Form 1-3).

I'd like to say cheers to the most happening wedding - Fara & Taufik!! I had a blast Fara! Loved everything, from the making of hantaran, flower bouquet, becoming a purple zombie (I love my dress!!), to snapping pictures together with everybody. Am truly happy for you. *hugs*

I quite my job at the big red O. Miss it tons & love the people but life just has to move on. I am now in a new office far far away. Hehehe... The people here are warm & friendly and I am so pumped up to start work! Let me at em'! Here's to the years to come at this awesome place!!

Christmas? Superb! Had a grand time participating with Lomokids to create a Lomo matrix. Don't know what a lomo matrix is? What happens is a bunch of peeps with their super cool Lomo cameras (a.k.a. Lomographers) huddle into a circle. Then in the middle of that circle is where all the action happens. You can do what ever you want - cartwheels, splits, chokeslams, kicks or just act pretty. At the count of three, us dudes and dudets with cameras in our hands will press the shutter button all at the same time (snap at the same time). In the end, when all the films have been developed (remember all is analog here so it's films all the way), a designated person will compile the images and create a video. Hence,check out the videos.

I will totally upload the finished product for our Lomo Matrix Malaysia as soon as it's done. The event was of support to the Rantai Art Event 2010 held at the National Art Gallery next to Istana Budaya. I also went to the Lomokids talk the day before with my brother Haziq.

He is one of my victims. Once you are exposed to Lomo, there is no turning back. He's got a UWS and I hope that I will get the chance to get him a super cool camera soon. So Haziq, you better be good!

Finding That Confidence

Feeling down in the dumps. This feeling is too overwhelming. It's sad to end something great and yet I know the other side is just as great and even better. Still it's a gamble, it's uncertain and it's my turn to roll the dice. Everyday my heart is beating faster and sheesh...I feel weird and scared. Scared of the unknown. God give me strength. Most people scream and run when they see these small critters - either jump on the bed or get out of the room. Those who are brave enough may even extend their hand to spray the little bugger with Shieldtox. Why would you want to feel all squeamish about them? Just because they have a three-part body (head, thorax, and abdomen) or have 6 legs? Have you ever thought that those little buggers are as much afraid of you than you are afraid of them? I'm talking about my dad's favourite subject here - INSECTS. Growing up as an Entomologists' daughter, I am used to having so many creepy crawlers running around the house. Wait till you see my dad's insect collection. Those who are appreciative would definitely go ooh or aah...on the other hand those who don't may scream your heads off. I have grown a lot of love for these small critters. I'd say my favourite bug would be either the walking stick, hissing cockroach or butterflies (yeah who wouldn't love butterflies, they have the coolest metamorphosis). I also love the rhinoceroses beetle. Which comes to the actual point of my entry today. I found this wonderful insect jewelry made by the famous Jude Aldridge a. I am sooooo digging it! They have the rhino beetle as a necklace! I love the details too! Check them out!

I also found some other insect jewelry at Jude's famous daughter Jane Aldridge's blog. She's a fashionista whom recently designed vintage shoes for Urban Outfitters. She's only 17. Lucky her. I love the details on the pendant! Imagine saying to people I caught the roach and wanted to honor it so I made it into a pendant. Hehehe...This roach pendant was designed by talented Benjamin Hubert at Tetanus Jewelry.

Been listening to my man Jared Leto screaming out Closer to the Edge. Damn the drums are super cool...try listening at 01:27min and you'll know what I mean. I'm blasting it up with this headset...wish I had Dr Dre's Beats (costs only $199 for the basic one honey). I want a customized one by the way. One of the many things in my wish list:

Shannon Leto rocks big time! I love the morphing of the rythms and gosh, with 7-8 hours practice daily no wonder he's damn good. *Excuse me for all the swearing..hahaha* By the way, he uses Vic-Firth 5an drum sticks. =)

I was just caught in the moment with Shannon I guess. I wanted to talk about this awesome print from vo.25.

I know that this entry is a bit late but it's never too late to show love...especially to our beloved FATHERs. Happy Belated Father's Day to all the dads out there!

I was going through the net last week and stumbled upon this very touching photo journal - Days With My Father by Philip Toledano.

The pictures are simple yet each picture brought a deluge of tears and at the end was the big ugly cry - as per one of the comments said. I was fighting back the tears in the office when I was reading this journal *yeah I read it while I was at the office*. It was a wonderful tribute that Philip made for his ailing father for the last 3 years of his life. I strongly recommend everyone to read Philip's journal. It's definitely a wake-up call for all of us - to cherish all our loved ones and for us to be reminded that we have these wonderful people we call our parents to be here with us now. This is our chance to show them as much love as we can since we never know what tomorrow holds.

I may not have the world's best relationship with my dad but I love him for everything that he has done for our family and for all the great advice he has given me all this while. He is the foundation of our family and my role model. Hey I even wrote an essay about him in Form 5 and got 40/40 peeps! Keep your feet on the ground - that's what he would say when something good happens like me getting a job with Oracle, getting my Oracle Certification, etc. The main thing that I have learned from my dad - no matter how high you get or become, don't forget your roots and be humble. Thanks dad for these priceless life lessons. No words can express how much I love you.

This year I wished my dad happy father's day via email. I shared with him this link and told him how much he means to me and that I love him so much. His reply:

For those who still have their dads around, get your butt moving and don't be afraid to hug your dad, give him a kiss on the cheeks and say I Love You. Prayers to those whom fathers have gone. Forever they stay in our minds and hearts. Don't worry - they may be gone in this world today, but they will always be in our hearts forever.

So I stumbled upon this cool article which is really applicable to my current situation now.

I hope that this article does have a thing or two in common to you too…tell me what you think.

'To Get What You Want, Don't Go With Your Gut' by Peter Bregman

About five years ago I took on a new client in New York City. This company had lawsuits against it, high turnover, and terrible press. One of the first people I met was a senior leader we'll call Hunter.

"Look Peter, you seem like a nice guy," Hunter said with a smile as he looked at me from across his desk, "but there have been several consultants before you and there will be several more after you. If you think you're going to change the way we do things here, well, you're mistaken."

Hunter smiled at me again and I had a strong, visceral reaction — I immediately disliked him.

After leaving the meeting I called my uncle Guy, a successful businessman in London, and told him the story. "I can't work with this company."

"Why not?" Guy asked.

"Hunter. Honestly? I really don't like the guy." I answered.

He laughed. "You don't have to like him, Peter. You just have to do business with him."

Guy was right. And he was pointing out a habit that costs many of us tremendous opportunity. Our reaction to an event creates an unproductive outcome.

In my case, the event was that Hunter told me I wouldn't be effective. My reaction was to dislike Hunter and avoid working with him. The outcome would have been the loss of that client.

This simple event-reaction-outcome chain governs most of our spontaneous action. Something or someone hooks us and we react. Someone yells at us, we yell back and create the outcome of a damaged relationship. It's not that we want a damaged relationship, it's just what happens when we yell back.

And that's the problem. The most important part of the chain, arguably the only part that really matters, the outcome, is collateral damage from our reaction. It's not intentional. We're reacting to the event. The outcome is simply fallout.

But, this time, before making that mistake, I paused; which gave my rational self time to negotiate with my emotional self. And, lucky for me, during that negotiation they must have agreed to call Guy for advice.

Guy offered an alternate chain. Focus on the outcome, then choose your reaction.

Rather than focus on my personal reaction to Hunter, Guy suggested that I focus on what I wanted, which was to grow the business.

When an unsettling event occurs, pause before reacting. In that pause, ask yourself a single question: what is the outcome I want? Then, instead of reacting to the event, react to the outcome.

In other words, stop reacting to the past and start reacting to the future.

If someone yells at you, pause before yelling back. Then ask yourself what outcome you want. If the answer is "an improved relationship," don't yell back. Instead, in a normal voice, empathize with their anger and ask some questions about the concerns raised in the midst of the screaming. That's a reaction that will achieve a better relationship.

Here's the hard part: You react to the event because it's asking you to react to it. But just because the event catalyzed your action, doesn't mean it should determine it. How you react can and should be determined by the outcome; by the future you want to create.

Maybe a colleague comes to you complaining about a situation she's in with her boss (event). How should you respond (reaction)? If the outcome you want is her feeling supported, then listen to her with empathy. If you want to help her, then offer solutions. If you simply want to get back to work, then find a graceful escape.

This is particularly useful in personal relationships. When a problem is presented to me (event), my instinct is to solve it (reaction). On the other hand, what I want most with my wife Eleanor is a strong vibrant relationship (outcome). So when she comes to me with a problem, instead of immediately trying to solve it, I ask her what she wants me to do. Listen? Solve? Coach? I am surprised, disappointed even, by the number of times she says "just listen." Wait, I want to tell her, I have ideas. Solutions. I can help. But after almost 10 years of marriage I've realized that listening is sometimes all the help she wants from me. So I listen.

In the end, I continued to work with Hunter and his company for several years. Instead of focusing on Hunter, I focused on the goal of creating a more functional, productive management process for the company.

At one point, I was back in Hunter's office, planning an offsite I was going to lead for him when I saw my book on his bookshelf.

"Have you read it?" I asked.

"Yes," he answered, "and it's not bad."

You know, I thought to myself, I might like this guy after all.

Ola! Yes, yes my bad that I haven't the urge to write entries for my blog. Lately I've only had the urges to go the bathroom ( I hate this sick feeling). I endure tons of stress at work till the point that I think I need to take Chortisol now, I went for a great/superb/awesome vacay with dear friend Yaqeen in Bandung and yet I return to find myself dizzy and diagnosed with hypo tension. Sheesh...maybe I need to take a more relaxing vacation.

With all the stress piled up last week, I even took the wrong train home. I got off the train, sat down on the steel bench and just stared into space for a good 30 minutes before I started to make some calls. Like I said to some close friends - I think I'd like to just be a homemaker, relaxing at home or even get a work-at-home job. Nah! Consulting is way too precious for me to let go and to think of the career expansion - wow I'd be missing a lot.

Anyways, this entry isn't about me yapping about Consulting but I'd like to put this blog to a good use once and for all. I'd like to share some of my favourite things with you. And if you do know me long enough, I'm a crafter - I love crafting! Sometimes I get so jealous of all the craft blogs I read for they have the time to make so nice things. I haven't had the time to even finish making Afriza her dear crystal bracelet. Oops boss - will get right to it immediately!

1. Book Page Wreath - I love this wreath, please click on the link for the DIY tutorial. It's super cool and I can't wait to make it! However I don't think I'll be using novels/books as the source of paper (I'm a book person), but I think pretty colored paper will do just fine...

2. Zoe Bradley!! I am so having these flowers for my wedding (when the time comes)!! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!

3. Pom Pom Flowers - This is an all time favourite. I used to make them back during my high school days. Now I know how to put them to good use. If you put them all together you can also make a pretty wreath as instructed here.

4. I absolutely adore Yulia Brodskaya! There's a name for her papergraphics and I really can't recall it at the moment. Will surely let you know when I do. Her work reminds me of my art class when I was 15. Best time of my life!

5. My handmade items - with help from Scrap-n-Crop. I didn't take the picture of the finished product but I framed (IKEA) the flower and put a picture on top of the heart. The person I gave the flower has it hanged on their wall. Feels nice to make something and give it to people who appreciate.

6. Bracelets!! They are my ultimate favourite type of accessories! I try to make as much as possible. Even having the dream to start a small business but hey - I am so busy these days I'm not sure when that is going to happen but it will InsyAllah... I had the greatest weekend! Went back to Melaka as usual only this time my bro Abu followed. We were talking all the way from KL to Gadek and one of the topics that came up was of course Earth Hour! Hmm...we were thinking on how we were going to convince our grandma to switch off the lights that night. So then we arrived at kampung, just after I finished helping my grandma cook chicken curry and fried chicken, she said that she's going to switch off the lights tonight! I was like...what the??? My grandma knows about it too? I was thinking really hard on how to break the ice about this topic to her and she surprised me by saying that Datuk Farid of TV3 asked everyone to switch of their lights at 8.30-9.30pm that night. Boy do I want to thank that Datuk. Hehehe...Hey but it's cool right?! My grandma whom is at the age of nearing 80 volunteered to vote for earth! Super cool! Up to date Puan!! Really proud of her...

So we did switched off the lights that night. Puan even did her prayers in the candlelight. Salute you Puan! Since we were quite busy talking during that one hour, I was too distracted to take pictures. But as you can see, these are the two candles that Puan had readied earlier for Earth Hour. Love you bro Abu & Puan!!

Thanks to all those who participated. To Afriza an her two boys who switched off their lights at 8.00pm (bersemangat tuh!!), to Mom in Kota Kinabalu who enjoyed the sea breeze in the solemn dark night and to all my dearest friends whom I love to bits...you know who you are...

I think I've got a new addiction. Only it kinda costs me a big hole in my pocket. I love SNEAKERS!! I used to be a sneaker girl since way back in the US till my early years of university. I've since passed down the shoe to my lil cousins. I've seen Lil Ashikin wearing them. Love them to bits! I've had my share of Adidas and Nikes, not to forget Puma and oh, Reebok which was once so big in the US! My first JPA scholarship money was used to get my my first converse shoes which I still have till this day. They're still wearable only I need to get them fixed a bit.

My addiction has brought me to buy a new pair of sneakers soon! Atiah is going to the US on the 19th and she's gonna pick up my sneakers there! How cool is that? So need your help. Should I get Vans or Nike? There's a poll on the sidebar so cast your votes! I've got till next week to order online.

Vans | Keren Richter x Vans
The latest Keren Richter collaborative shoe comes in two colorways (purple or pink). The illustration features one of my signature psychedelic inspired landscapes. The narrative is open for interpretation, but one could say it’s a sixties Wonderland, with one part Super Mario World and one part Greek mythology. Dealing with death is a life experience that no one wants to face. Life can often seem like swimming in the ocean during high tide. Even if we know how to swim and jump over the big waves at just the right time, when we least expect it-wham! We are broadsided, and find ourselves spinning and bouncing off the bottom of the ocean with a mouth full of sand. If we fight, it takes longer to get to the surface. But if we float with the current, we come right to the top. Floating when we are frightened is difficult. It takes trust and concentration. Dealing with the death of a loved one is similar. In order to cope, it takes trust.

Death is nearly always accompanied by questions - especially "why?". Whether we are facing our own death, or the death of someone we love, we want answers. Why is this happening? What did I do to deserve this? Is there life after death? The sooner we learn to float - to trust - the easier it is to discover the answers we are seeking.

I don't think I'll ever learn to have that trust. This week alone, 3 deaths happened. And of course I was asking myself the question "Why?". And only today I am able to write about it, to talk about it.

First and for most my heartiest condolences to Shikin Nordins' family on the lost of your beloved grandfather on Tuesday. I am feeling you girl. I know that you were really close to your Atuk and I think that the poem you did for your Atuk is beautiful. May he rest in peace.

My second condolences would go to Shikin Alaudin's family. Though we were not super close back at UNITEN, I did have the chance to have small talk with her now and then. We would say hi, and 'borak2' when ever we bumped into each other at Murni. Went to visit her on Monday evening with Ain. It took my whole strength to contain myself to not break down then and there just looking at her. I lost the battle. I shed tears throughout my Yassin prayers for her. What was I doing? She's only 25, my age for God's sake! and there I was reciting the Yassin for her. It just didn't feel right. All I wanted to do was shake her and ask her to get up. The last thing I did that day was to whisper in her ear for her to get better cause we were all waiting for her and so that she would be strong and get herself together to fight the disease. I left with a heavy heart full of prayers for God to provide the best for her. I guess God has bigger plans for her. I got 2 messages on Wednesday with news that I wish I never got. Shikin Alaudin, you will be missed.

My third and last condolences would be for my dear friend Munirah in Korea. On Thursday, she had a miscarriage. I contribute these daisies to your baby Mun. I'm so sorry. It must be super hard for you to lose something that was a part of you, a part of your body. Wish I was there to give you a hug and tell you that everything will be OK. Just remember that there are so many people around you that care about you. Distance is not an obstacle. We are always with you.

Lastly, I'd like to say that the passing on of a fellow Muslim brother or sister reminds us that death is inevitable. It is therefore a duty for every Muslim to work towards cultivating good deeds and eliminating evil ones for the sake of Allah. God is testing us and we shall endure with triumph.

Al-Fatihah to those who have left us to be by God's side.

It's My First Time Honey...

1) First airplane ride
I think it would be when I was 1+ years old, at that time we were living in Tawau Sabah. Of course I don't remember how it was. I hope I was a good girl though...ehehe...

2) First time I gave birth
I'm not married yet...giving birth is a scary thought...

3) First time overseas
Does Tawau count? Ehehe...Moved to the US when I was in kindergarten. Was there for 3 years while my dad did his PhD. Best days of my life was spent there. InsyAllah will be back there. Caltech here I come!!

4) First time living away from your family
Form 4...Mrsm Taiping...great memories...ehehe...lovely friends...

5) First time I had a real job
Internship at Damansara? Nah...First job would be Channel Executive at Patimas Computers Sdn Bhd...great environment with the swimming pool and sauna and gym...

6) First time I felt I was fat
Hahaha...Form 4!! We had meals 6 times a day...Super fat!

Hmmm...wow...I've never thought of this before...I'm a very simple person. Plain Jane maybe. Maybe I've never felt it before...wow...I'm still thinking and thinking...

Hahaha...it's was a ghost story...ape tah...don't remember...

10) First time admitted in hospital
I think I was in my 2nd or 3rd year at uni...I had an operation on my right ear. I was wheeled into the OT already, the nurse gave me an IV and it went to a wrong vein, hurt really bad! To top it all off, the operation didn't happen in the OT at all! There was an emergency brain surgery so I was wheeled out, went to the doctor's private suite and sat on a chair, got local anesthetics and the doctor started snipping away...I could feel everything but without the pain...there were even spectators - Mama and Atiah...They said it was pretty 'menggelikan'. Anyways, it was a great experience. The doctor was super cute - Dr Ilan Govan (Pantai Melaka - he's a great ENT specialist!) and actually my grandpa was warded the same week too...so those who came to visit my grandpa came to visit me too! Ramai! Suke! But the pain afterwards...nangis tak berlagu babe!

1. What were you doing 5 years ago?
5 years ago would be in 2003...ahaha...i was only in my second & third year having the time of my life...when i look back it was really fun! hanging out with affni, put & naz and also the palm gang - Qin, Fara, Fizah, Ilah & Wanie...syiok gile...

2. What are the 5 things on your to-do-list today?
- Meet up with Yakin to get my courier package from Korea *super excited*!
- Train a Tabung Haji staff (excited ni! jadi cikgu kecik kan Afriza!)
- Go back home after work, bathe and then go out for buka puasa at the gardens
- Start making that gold swasa braclet for Kak Ina. I'll post the finished product after I finish it and you can order 1 if you're interested...hihihi...
- Get wrapping paper for Makcik's present (made it myself, pat on the back for me)

3. What are 5 snacks that you enjoy?
- I don't really snack that much but what I really love COKE!! Coke is my coffee...I can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yeah I know it's bad for health. This fasting month I haven't touched coke at all! Hooray...

- Oreos - I'm a dunker...so what are you? A dunker or a twister?
- Chocolate chip cookies...somehow I can't find a really yummy choc-chip cookie in Malaysia with the exception of what my Makngah makes every raya. I could finish 2 dozens of huge cookies last time in the US. Sometimes if I think hard, I can actually feel the taste of it in my mouth. One day I gotta get back there just for the cookies.
- I can't really think of anything else. I'm not a big snacker...Muahahaha...

4. What are 5 jobs you've had?
Actually, I don't think I have ever had 5 jobs before. Would be a daughter, sister, niece and grandchild count? Hehehe...Ok here goes...

My practical (ala2 first job) was at a small IT company called Datamonsters. A MSC company, twas cool, learnt alot there. I did web layouts and there I was introduced to GIMP. I love GIMP. It works like photoshop and it's free. Try it! I also did some programming - VB6. Didn't like it but I did some reports like EPF etc...The CEO was really into himself...malas nak explain...

My official first job would be at Patimas Computers Bhd. I loved the environment. There was a gym, swimming pool, court, sauna and tons of other facilities for their staff. I worked as a Channel executive. Did sales for Symantec AntiVirus and also Oracle (smile*). This is the place where I learnt my Oracle stuff. But I concentrated more on Symantec. Made a lot of friends here. Friends for life. Cat, Ezura, Nasrah, Annie. Cool people. But we all left...ehehe except for Cat who got promoted. Thumbs up for you gurl! Btw Jairi is getting married this 19th Oct...Congrats to you!

So my current job - Consultant @ Oracle Corporation Malaysia. The best days of my life so far...learned sooooooooo much and I'm still learning. In Oracle the only thing that doesn't change is change...so it's fun meeting new people, learning new technology...great exposure...I'm currently stationed at Tabung Haji and will soon be moving on to a new project at a 'big' local bank after raya. Wish me luck! My wish is to one day be sent overseas for huge projects. For the time being, Oracle please send me to Vietnam!

3 jobs it is...I do odd jobs too...creative stuff...making bracelets, crafts...what job would that be...huhu...

Art is Pretentious

Am I being the lazy bum that I don't want to be? OMG! Help!

Not only my butt feels so heavy but my fingers...God help me...I don't know why it's so hard to get them to type faster[excuses, excuses Adibah]. Btw what does my butt has anything to do with my fingers?? *Wondering*...I need a boost to get me going again...I need to get my motivation going. *sigh*

What has happened all this while? I'm practically fine, healthy and clean from drugs and alchohol. July is an exciting month for me. As usual - weddings...went to quite a few this month...free food again, yippy! Here are some pics of the beautiful brides...

We (me, sis and dad) went to the wedding. Munira's dad is my dad's lifelong friend. They knew each other since way back the days where Uncle Dud dunked my dad in a tank of cow shit (Kolej Pertanian orientation, thank God they don't do that anymore). Also was present was my Uncle (Paklong) or more known to them as Denker (I don't know if I got that spelled right Paklong...ampun) and also Uncle Ramoolo (what's with the weird nickname guys??). As usual, we (sis and I) got ditched by dad. I'm so thankful that Maklong was around...so we hanged out with her and Makcik Yati (Maklong's lil sis).

Then would be Sabirin's wedding! Woohoo! Add hock decision. Thanks to Tom & Haida for informing me about it...Thanks to Raja also for joining us even though we told you at last minute. Birin is one of my classmate(513) back at MRSM Taiping. We had only 8 guys in the class. Looks like Jazmie, Birin and Hafizal are married now. Counting the days for Salleh who is engaged to Ernie(514) to get married. 4 more guys to go right? What about the girls? Hmmm...I have yet to get the pictures from En Tom...

**Now if I could only make everyone around me ask when I'm getting married. Lama lagi wooo...I just chose my career path. In fact today is the first day I'm on the job! Congrats to me! I'm in the Consulting Team! Very challenging I say, working with people with 10+ years of experience. Wow! I wonder if I can catch up with them. I'm having a meeting with my manager afterwards and he will distribute my tasks asap. I'm really looking forward to something challenging and hope to learn as much as possible. I soooo envy Affni who did her first benchmarking yesterday. It would be super cool to do benchmarking especially involving our famous database and see what makes it a super product as it so proclaims.

For those who don't know what *Benchmarking* is, here is what Wikipedia has to say:

The term, benchmark, is also mostly utilized for the purposes of elaborately-designed benchmarking programs themselves. Beauty is skin deep...

Premature aging??

Have you given up and resigned yourself to the idea that there is nothing you can do to stop your pimples? Have you minimized your social life because of the dreaded thought that people might stare and find your acne disgusting? Studies show that up to 80 percent of those who seek treatment for their acne problem can actually be helped. Just take time to go to your doctor and inform him what you have been doing to fight against your pimple problem.

If you have an acne prone skin, pamper it. Be gentle with your skin and avoid vigorous scrubbing. Vigorous scrubbing can actually irritate your skin and may worsen blocked pores. The oil trapped beneath the surface of the skin causes pimple break-outs and no vigorous scrubbing can get rid of it. Instead, try gentle washing with a skin cleanser. Do it once or twice a day. Regular shampooing is also advisable since pimples often appear on the forehead. If you have oily hair, wash it daily and keep it off you face as much as possible. Avoid using hair products with oil like pomades and gels.

Don't pop or squeeze your pimples. We always have the tendency to pop or squeeze our pimple whenever it appears on our face. Avoid this bad habit and keep your hands away from your face as much as possible. Your hands usually carry germs that will further irritate your skin and popping your pimple will just cause irritation and probably skin infection.

Learn to read and understand labels. Use only cosmetics that are non-comedogenic which means they won't block pores.

Protect your skin from sunlight and avoid tanning booths. Tanning only masks your acne and it doesn't clear it. Wear sunscreens and avoid getting sunburn. Best is to have SPF15 in you moisturizer.

Healthy skin relies on nutrition, protection from harmful rays and an appropriate cleansing regimen. Good skin care slows down the aging process and helps avoid unnecessary skin problems. In addition to its cosmetic value, your skin protects and conceals your musculoskeletal system, organs, keep you warm and provides nourishment. It is your body's largest organ and deserves special care. Keep your skin healthy with these tips that I got when I attended the beauty class to get my cert.

Protection and Care

Step1
Clean your face with a cleanser. Do double cleansing - yup 2 face washes. Especially if you had a day outside with all the dust and debris of air pollution. I use a Vitamin C face wash(best face wash of 2004) and a normal to dry cleansing gel that contains papaya enzymes. It smells sooo good!

Step2
Be gentle when you wash your face. Exfoliate regularly. Exfoliate means scrub. Do this once or twice a week. Make sure to get the best scrub that has small beadings that are circular so that you do not damage or injure your face.

Step3
Tone. A toner's main purpose is to make our pores smaller since it just enlarged when we washed our face just now. My toner is a pH toner which means it brings our skin back to the normal pH. It also makes my pores smaller and readies my face for treatment, facial or the moisturizer.

Step4
Protect your skin from the sun. Wear sunscreen and avoid exposure during its most intense hours. Have a moisturizer that contains SPF15. At night, where a night cream that helps your skin to rejuvenate - build new cells. This is the best time to tackle scars too.

Additional:
Once or twice a week do facials. I don't mean you have to go to salons and all that. I use claypack, glacial marine mask - obtained from a remote glacial estuary in the Pacific Northwest, absorbs impurities from skin (dirt, dead cells, excess oil) without robbing precious moisture, hydrating mask - keeps my face moisturized after a hot day outside and others. I rotate one for each week. Don't tell me you thought otherwise? Ehehehe...

Get a spa. There are many machines that we can have at home now. Price is reasonable and it's easy to use. I usually lay down and do my own spa. Relaxing and I usually sleep afterwards. Ehehe...

Just remember...our skin rejuvenates at night. The most active time would be from 10pm to 2am. So that's the best time to wash your face or do facials. There's no harm in doing it earlier too...

Nutrition

In order to have beautiful skin we need to have a healthy body. So nutrition is really important.

Step1
Drink at least eight 8 oz. glasses of pure water each day. Water hydrates, flushes toxins, relieves puffiness and increases radiance.

Step2
Eat sufficient protein so that the skin can repair itself. Protein deficiency brings on sagging and premature aging.

Step3
Include fish in your diet. Essential fatty acids keep skin soft and supple. Take fish oil - not scott's emulsion ok!

Step4
Limit simple carbohydrates. Refined sugar and flour cause premature aging.

Step5
Load up on brightly colored vegetables. Vitamins A and C enhance skin strength and metabolism, reduce inflammation and protect DNA. We are to eat 5-9 servings of fruits/veggy everyday. Each serving is our fist size. Have you had yours today?

Six Slam-Dunk Time Management Tips

Recently I have been feeling very overwhelmed at work. Sometimes I feel as if I am hovering above all the work and never land on any one project(actually I have to complete a whole system demo starting from scratch and I've just finished the first module...argh). So at this point I stop, take a break to reassess where my workday is headed and make a list of what needs to be done. And believe me the list is super long. Sometimes this works - making a list, sometimes it doesn't. I've always got an ear open for more time management tips and tricks. So here are some information that I got from CareerBuilder.com. Let's try it out together...

The basketball court and the office may have more in common than you think. After all, one key to top performance in both arenas is time management. Keeping a careful eye on the clock can help your team sink buzzer-beating shots and allow you to work more effectively.

But properly managing your time isn't always easy, especially if last-minute projects or requests seem to constantly pop up. Even star players sometimes have trouble prioritizing competing demands. In fact, in a recent survey conducted by Robert Half International, executives cited time management as the greatest challenge they face today.

Whether you're a time-tested veteran or a promising rookie, the following tips will help you manage your time better:

Create a to-do list.

At the end of each day, invest some time in identifying and writing down the next day's tasks and rank them in terms of importance and urgency. Review your prioritized to-do list in the morning to get a good jump on the day.

Develop a system.

Tracking systems can help you stay on point. Options include project-management software programs, which electronically track activities and deadlines, and "tickler" files that remind you of pending items. And, of course, there's always a good old-fashioned planner, which you can use to write down each project on your plate, its status and the next steps you need to take. Choose whichever option you are most likely to stick with. By systematically monitoring your progress, you'll be less likely to procrastinate or overlook important dates and details.

Clean up.

How many times have you searched frantically for an important document only to find it days later, buried under outdated memos, take-out menus and sticky notes? Don't overextend yourself.
For instance, you can't write a detailed memo while simultaneously talking on the phone, filing paperwork and thinking about an upcoming brainstorming session. When working on a crucial assignment, give the issue at hand your undivided attention so you do it right the first time. Fight the urge to multitask, which often impedes real productivity by leading to oversights and errors.

Take a break from technology.

When you're trying to concentrate, is there anything more distracting than a vibrating cell phone or the pinging sound of an incoming e-mail or instant message? If possible, give yourself periodic breaks from technology. This will allow you to work free of interruption and get more done.

Help others.

There's no better way to build rapport, foster goodwill and gain allies than by volunteering to assist overworked and frazzled co-workers. By lending a hand when you can, you're likely to be offered one in return the next time you're swamped.

Developing stellar time-management skills takes practice and discipline, but your efforts will pay big dividends. When I salam with Kak Yus, I felt her hands were the softest hands I have ever felt. *Psst....kalah tangan ko Fara (I know you have really nice & soft hands - jangan marah). So I asked her what was her secret to those marvelously soft hands? She introduced me to Scion Hand & Body Lotion. I bought it at RM30. It smells nice and works better if we apply after shower/bath. As usual her poise and confidence drew the audience to really listen to her thoughts and words (P/S: Rugi siapa yang tak pegi). I am proud to be her niece. She just came out in the newspapers - NST to be exact recently. Here is the link. The picture in the article is my aunt and my cousin, Adri who really likes to shine in the spotlight ALL the time. Hehehe... How cool is that? She's my inspiration. She is a great doctor having the principal of curing is better than healing, she's a great mom and she's the best business partner one could ever have! My tribute to Dr Fauziah Hj Ahmad....Salute!

It's almost 7pm and I'm still at the office. I think it's still considered early right? I'm blog hopping & script writing & internet browsing at the same time. Oh when are my scripts will be done? I keep dragging the time to do them and I have a deadline which is right around the corner.

Got an appointment with M.Azlina tonight. Will be meeting her near KLCC. I think I'll be heading there after this for some retail therapy. How about that? I really wanted to get those plaid shorts from Padini. Of course I'll be wearing them at home, duh! They looked kinda cool so let's blame Amirah for influencing me to wear plaids. I think they're cute. Erm, the last I saw they were 2 for RM79. I'm also looking into some cute gurly shoes from Nike. It's brown in color and super cute. Although I also saw some cute ones at Puma. I really need them. Someone is always complaining about the iPanema flip flops that I wear, they look like selipar jamban. No they don't! I love them. They give me comfort.

Well enough of all that. I want to share with you today about folding. Haven't heard about it? It's really interesting. It's using the power of our computers to do calculation for for protein folding. It is a project by Stanford University.

Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases. We use novel computational methods and large scale distributed computing, to simulate timescales thousands to millions of times longer than previously achieved. This has allowed us to simulate folding for the first time, and to now direct our approach to examine folding related disease

You can help the project by downloading and running the client software. The algorithms are designed such that for every computer that joins the project, we get a commensurate increase in simulation speed.

So I strongly recommend those who have super fast computers with the latest technology to help out in this project. Do visit this website for more information. Identify goals and make a budget

What are your goals for five years, 10 years, 20 years from now: To buy your own home? Send a child to university? It's important to define your goals, and when you want to reach them.

Develop a Game Plan

In order to reach your goals, you need a plan. This plan is called a budget. Don't be put off by the name. A budget is just a tool to help you get the most from your money. It can be as simple or detailed as you like. Most people do not factor in their major financial goals when developing their budget. Instead they begin by writing down their monthly income, subtracting their monthly spending and then deciding how to save or spend what's left over. It might actually be smarter to first determine your goals and what it would take to meet them, and then integrate those goals into your budget.

Here's how to get started:

Determine your Goals

Write down your top three major financial goals. These may include paying down debt or saving for a house or your children's university.

Next, write down the expected total cost and time frame. Divide the cost by the total number of months. This is how much you'll need to set aside each month to reach your goals. (If the set-asides seem too big, you may want to extend your time frame)

To reach your goals, you'll need to set aside a certain amount each month. One good method for doing this is to set aside your goal money first, then cut back spending accordingly.

How much spending will you need to cut? Where will you cut? Or how much additional income, if any, will you need to earn each month? The best way to answer these questions is to do a budget.

Look at the Numbers

Now that you have determined your goals and the money you'll need to set aside each month to meet them, as well as your monthly take-home income, you can calculate the absolute maximum that you can afford to spend.

Plan Your Monthly Spending

This is where the magic happens. Once you begin to see your financial picture more clearly, you'll begin to discover new and exciting solutions.

Stay on Track (By Following Your Budget) Once you've made a budget, write down your spending each month to see if you're on track. If you accidentally go over budget in one area, don't panic. Instead, try to cut back in other areas so you can still come out on target.

Some of the money in your budget won't actually be spent every month. This includes money you've budgeted for future car repairs, house repairs, insurance, property taxes and medical and dental bills. Don't spend it. When those big bills finally arrive, you won't be caught short.

Estimate your Future Spending

Once you know how much you spend, you can use this information to estimate your monthly expenses. First, put in your fixed bills, such as your monthly mortgage payment or rent, car payment and all loan and credit card payments. Then fill in the rest, estimating as best as you can. Make sure you include all the hidden costs of driving a car (insurance, petrol, repairs) and owning a home (maintenance, repairs). Even if you don't have to make an insurance payment next month, include one-twelfth of your yearly insurance bills. When planning your budget, be realistic about spending items. The more accurate you are, the better you'll see the current state of your finances and the better you'll be able to make decisions.

Total Your Spending, and Compare

If your total monthly spending is more than your maximum spending limit, go back and look for areas to trim. Keep cutting until your monthly spending falls below the maximum, so there is money left over.

Set up an Emergency Fund

What you do with the small amount you have left over at the end of each month will have an enormous impact on your finances. This is the only money, other than the amount you've set aside for your goal, that you can use to improve your financial situation. Consider using this money to improve your financial situation by paying down your credit card and loan balances, or setting it aside for an emergency fund.

It's lunch time and I have all the time in the world to just sit back and relax, for the time being. With all the time that I have in hand, I started to blog hop at the same time I checked out Yayasan Salam's webby to find the latest updates. The Disaster Training just passed by on the 28-30 March. It was held at Eco Resort, Pahang. I missed it and I'm devastated. So then I read this volunteer's blog, only to find a blog of my long lost friend from MRSM Taiping, Suhaili Ramli. I thought she didn't blog anymore. Looks like I was wrong. It was fun reading her blog. So many happenings in her life. She is so active in volunteering and she herself introduced me to Yayasan Salam. She is now doing her PhD in humanities at UM after her MBA at Open Uni. She is a great programmer currently working with ExxonMobile and I think she's going to switch jobs to being an SAP programmer/developer - am supporting my friend even though SAP is Oracle's main competitor in the applications world. Big bucks there for you Lee (peeps call her Elly now but We used to call her Lee back at school and I love that name). She also has 2 peoms that are going to be published under poetry.com. She has accomplished alot!! I am so proud of her. You are my inspiration Lee! I am so motivated to go and live my life to the fullest (the slow song Jay is singing now is really indulging me further).

Here are some of my plans for the time being:

Join a Korean Language class as soon as possible or maybe after June

Join the jewellery/beading class at Berjaya Times Square (13 April 2008)

Get my GRE & TOEFL asap! I want to further my studies and I know I'm getting older

Volunteer more, but my interest is more to animals (planning to go save some seahorses at johor soon). I'm into MNS - Malaysia Nature Society & MYCAT. Sometimes the volunteering time is not convenient for me...it's frustrating.

I know Lee is sort of a lone ranger and I do wish we could hook up some time...we have so many things in common.

Anyhow, I feel refreshed and motivated. Maybe appearing at K-popped is my first step. Who knows about tomorrow. I want to equip myself with all sorts of knowledge and information. I want to do more in life.

Monday...

Twas an emotional day for me. Results of the 12 general election left me dazed. Sunday was rest day so I didn't watch tv and didn't read the papers (actually I wanted to get a copy but all of them were sold out), so I really didn't have any specific idea on how the election went. Thanks to Mr Abu for updating me. It's great to have a lawyer talk to you about politics. You make me start thinking about unimaginable things.

Came to the office, stopped at the newspaper stand to get 3 copies of different papers (I didn't want to miss a thing). So I reached my office and started thinking again. I'd like to say that I respect and salute the brave new Malaysians, who dare stand up to voice their opinion through the right channel. Malaysians have spoken!

It's sad, it's emotional for me. Truth is, I am not disappointed nor am I happy. But in the bigger picture, the recent elections have left us with a broken government now. That, I am not in favor of.

Let's face it; it was WEAK LEADERSHIP that brought us into this tight spot. I hope the the government learns and that they take action. I still can't imagine how ministers can lose and losing 5 states all in all (my friend is so happy for Kedah Darul Ulama). Devastating. At times like this, I wish soooo much that Tun Dr Mahathir can come back into the scene. I love him dearly. To all those who have the same feelings as me, let us brace ourselves and pray for a better tomorrow.

I feel guilty, for not voicing my right. I didn't vote, because I did not register. Many of friends around my age did not vote. Why? I don't know. Maybe lack of knowledge on how severe it can become if you don't vote, or how important 1 small vote can make. I think if BN were to move forward, they need to find more youngsters. We need fresh blood. Like how PKR has Nurul Izzah who was my senior at UNITEN. People, exercise your right!

Had a long talk with a colleague of mine who is going to run for Pemuda UMNO soon. I wish him all the best and that you take the better in everything you do, to listen to the people and always have a clean 'Nawaitu'.

Congratulations to Tun's prodigy, Dato Mukhriz. I wish I could vote in Jerlun. I wish I could meet Tun. Congratulations also to Salleh, your dad won in Johor for DUN - Sheikh Ibrahim Salleh. Anak YB la ko skang ek...ehehe...

It started with last weekend...I finally got a chance to watch my long time awaited hindi movie - JODHAA AKBAR!! It's the best movie ever! It's not the usual sappy hindi love story where you can anticipate what is actually going to happen next. I've waited for this movie since 31st December 2007 and it was out recently on the 15th of Feb 2008. What a long and tiring wait. But ot was really worth it. Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan are such a great couple! I wish they'd marry each other. You can definitely see the chemistry. No words of mine can explain how it is I feel about this movie. It's simply superb! It has elements from Troy too. Hehehe...It is totally my genre of movie. Historical, love and war.

Jodhaa-Akbar is a plain and simple love story between a man named Akbar and a girl named Jodhaa who tried to come close together despite the sundry barriers of religion and culture. It's about Hrithik and Aishwarya trying to find romance in an archetypal arranged marriage that was solemnised for everything but love.

My favourite scene would definitely be when Jodhaa stares out lustily -- from behind the curtains -- at her bare-bodied, abs-o-lutely oomphy husband practising the sword on the terrace. The film talks about a love that transcends all barriers -- gender, religion, culture -- and dreams of an India where secularism and tolerance are the twin towers that should never ever crumble. And Akbar and Jodhaa are the alluring exponents of this dream. Beyond that, the film has nothing much to boast of, except a few interesting song and dance set pieces where dervishes whirl, drums roll and doves fly.

The battle sequences do need some touching up but what carries the film through is the performances and bits of the music (AR Rahman). Both Aishwarya and Hrithik complement each other once again after ending up as one of the most sizzling couples of contemporary cinema in Dhoom 2.

Anyways, both Hrithik and Ash were damn hot in this movie! It's great to know Jodhaa Akbar has hit box office in major parts of the world esp. USA! Hail to the emperor of Mughal and the empress!!

Well, being surrounded by Indians also make me want to express my hindi feelings. My team here @ Oracle are from India, my good friend is doing her masters in India (and she stopped chatting with me today just because she had to go watch some hot cuteys play basketball - Ayu, I want to go too!! I am super jealous of you!!). Anyways, I think Indian people are very knowledgable and because of that I have the urge to work harder to prove to my team that I am at par with them. I'd love to make new friends from India especially one involved in the IT industry and loves hindi movies...holla atcha gurl!!

Hahaha....sorry guys, too much of hindi for you to handle? That was just a sneak peak ok. Don't get me started on the late night dancing and the banghra...ehehehehe...

Tomorrow is the election day! OMG! I feel excited about it but too bad, I didn't register so I'm left with a choice to go to a wedding later on in the afternoon while everyone else votes in the morning. So Ina, tunggu kedatanganku!

Feedback...feedback...

Gosh...It's been a hell of a week...Actually starting from last week. I've been feeling a whole load of pressure, so much that on Wednesday I had this major headache I almost couldn't drive back home. Thanks to Mr. Difnal which came in handy in my handbag - the best painkiller ever (works within half an hour after consumption, for real!).

Last Friday I was supposed to present to my team member and also to a HCM (human capital management) expert from India via web & conference call. It was then postponed to Tuesday. Friday was a really stressful day. I guess presenting to an expert really hit me hard. I don't think I was really prepared therefore my guts gave in. Confidence went boom, down the drain. I'm relieved to know I didn't have to present on Friday.

So Tuesday came. I booked a meeting room so I could take the call privately and was ready an hour before the appointed time. I wasn't as nervous as I was on the previous Friday. Everything went well once I had the hang of it. Then it came to me. The system is sooo cool! Suddenly I'm so into it. And I then decided that this would be a great career path since there is no one here in Malaysia who is an expert on PeopleSoft HRMS. Why not I, me become the expert! Wouldn't that be cool! I'd get to travel the Asia region, wow! My next goal and target I guess. So people, if you see me slacking maybe I could use a kick in the butt to remind me. Hehehe...but don't push your luck too hard okey...

Afterwards, I got a thumbs up from both my managers and the HCM expert (I couldn't get what he was saying throughout the call because of his pure Indian accent). Great job! Great presentation! Very informative! I am so keen to do triple better than before.

I was sitting at my desk going through my mail and saw that Oracle and MIMOS had signed the MoU (memorandum of understanding) and we had great press exposure, and boy do I mean what I said. Check out today's The Star paper if you don't believe me. This was my pet project since last year. I had great fun going to MIMOS and working with their Grid Team. They had really cool sensors and I am at awe on how both parties are working together. I love the technology! Even now that I'm not in that team anymore (cause I've moved to sales consulting) I still feel that I am part of it somehow. I'm so proud of it's progress!

Getting back to the story, I emailed by previous manager - head of this project to congratulate her (yup, it's a her - Girl Power!) and she replied, I quote "Congrats to you too. I'm sure you'll do well in anything that you do." That short but sweet sentence hit me to the core! Glitters of water were automatically there in my eyes. My Australian manager said something of the same meaning to me a few months back. The email really made my day (even though I felt a bit stressed that day due to some separate entities).

Even the weekends were stressful...sheesh..Get a life Adibah! Anyways, here's what I did last Sunday. My latest art project. It needs a picture and also some embellishments. I'm going to frame it and give it as a present to my Doctor Aunty who has helped tremendously in life and is my idol and lifesaver.

I have all the equipment needed and I think I'll start making some bracelets this weekend. Maybe I'll make one as a birthday present for my friend. Hmmm...great idea. I stopped making crafts a few years back. I don't know why. I always didn't have the mood, maybe it reminded me of something. But my head was spinning with ideas and visualizations of how the outcome of an art project would be. So, wish me luck.

Happy New Year! Wow what a start to a new year - Health Minister resigned from his designated position, ... and I'm stuck here sick. Sheesh...Thanks so much dearest friends for your support and love. I am now back in action even though I have a few glitches here and there. I still have a slight pain in my left arm.

I used this to treat my rashes and it works superbly! It has aloe vera and is very good to treat wounds too. Since the rashes are a bit itchy, I used the 'Enhancer' to sooth my itchyness. Boy did it work. For those who have kids down with chicken pox, I strongly recommend this clear lotion. I also apply the 'Enhancer' before I use a mask on my face. Feels real good and fresh. You can practically go to sleep with the mask on cause it is so gentle and soothing. I didn't use any chemicals on my left hand. I only applied enhancer with a mixture of TeGreen so that there will be less pigmentation - as you know that TeGreen is good for your pigmentation (that's why the Koreans and Japanese have beautiful complexion - they drink a lot of green tea). So make sure you find a good quality TeGreen and don't be such a cheapskate! Contact me if you need any recommendations.

Well then...I hope that everyone had a great year (2007)... There were a gazillion things that happened last year right? All I wish is for everyone to have the best in 2008. As for me, I've put a few pointers to be achieved this year. Well, even though I started 2008 in a condition that is so unbearable but with this test that God has given me, I am a stronger and better person. So with that, I would love to be more active in blogging and if possible making this blog a knowledge blog - sharing whatever information that is necessary for people of my age these days. Hey, it's not always about fashion. Give it up people. We need to be more alert of the happenings of the world. What happened to those victims of the Islamabad earthquake in 2005? Did you know that the Jews are building a wall around Bethlehem and our fellow Muslim friends have to line up like cattle waiting to be slaughtered just to clear checkpoints to go to work outside the wall? What about the innocents ...

Hey, why not we look at our own country. Gosh we are so blessed. But among those who are blessed, there are still living in poverty, corruption and living the life of people who they aren't. Being sick and staying at home, I had tons of free time to think and observe. I Thank you God for all the blessings you have given me, for letting me experience the love from family and friends no matter how far they are. Thank you for giving me all that I have now.

P/S: I only got to post this now due to being sick since January (recurrent of chicken pox but only on my left hand, nerves attacked and it hurts big time!)...I'm still on medication but will be better soon, I promise!! Pray for me...

I miss these gurls...esp the one in the BAPE sweater (jealousnye...)

Dato' Seri Hishammuddin said I was cute wearing the Oracle Think.Com shirt!!

It was a good day. The sky was bright and vibrant with colors, the wind was blowing and I had a great feeling that it would turn out well, and IT DID!!

I'd like to thank all of those who were involved in the success of the Oracle Think.Com Launch. Thanks also to the media for the big spread of the event...

If you were alert of the current happenings in Malaysia and for those who love Dato' Seri Hishammuddin, I'm sure that you've either read it in the papers or saw it on tv. I guess this event is a huge chunk in my portfolio now. I treasure all the memories and I will improve on the imparities that have come forth.

-ve = 7.30pm and still working happily

I believe that in everything we do, small or big - we must have our senses right, doing the job with sincerity and holding that ton mertic of responsibility on your shoulders with dignity and pride. I cherish these moments for we never know what is going to happen the next second. There is much to be done, to improve myself and to learn.
