**Now if I could only make everyone around me ask when I'm getting married. Lama lagi wooo...I just chose my career path. In fact today is the first day I'm on the job! Congrats to me! I'm in the Consulting Team! Very challenging I say, working with people with 10+ years of experience. Wow! I wonder if I can catch up with them. I'm having a meeting with my manager afterwards and he will distribute my tasks asap. I'm really looking forward to something challenging and hope to learn as much as possible. I soooo envy Affni who did her first benchmarking yesterday. It would be super cool to do benchmarking especially involving our famous database and see what makes it a super product as it so proclaims.
For those who don't know what *Benchmarking* is, here is what Wikipedia has to say:
In computing, a benchmark is the act of running a computer program, a set of programs, or other operations, in order to assess the relative performance of an object, normally by running a number of standard tests and trials against it. The term, benchmark, is also mostly utilized for the purposes of elaborately-designed benchmarking programs themselves. Benchmarking is usually associated with assessing performance characteristics of computer hardware, for example, the floating point operation performance of a CPU, but there are circumstances when the technique is also applicable to software.
Software benchmarks are, for example, run against compilers or database management systems. Another types of test programs, namely test suites or validation suites, are intended to assess the correctness of software.
Benchmarks provide a method of comparing the performance of various subsystems across different chip/system architectures. Benchmarking is helpful in understanding how the database manager responds under varying conditions. You can create scenarios that test deadlock handling, utility performance, different methods of loading data, transaction rate characteristics as more users are added, and even the effect on the application of using a new release of the product.
I'm looking forward to my first benchmarking too! (even though I have to stay at the customer's place till late night - muda2 la buat bende2 camni kan?)
INTERMISSION
After 2 hours....
Hahaha...macam cerita hindustan plak ada intermission...I had a meeting with my manager just now. Great stuff. Am excited!! Hmmm...there's no denying that I do have the butterflies in my stomach now but hope everything turns out well. I'm blinded by the awesomeness!! (quoted from Kungfu Panda)..ehehehe...well...it's kinda late and today I took the train...I'll be squished like a tin of sardines (why can't we say A tin of tuna? or artichokes? or beans? or peaches? hmmm...I wonder - psst I'm babbling)...ok then...catch you later!!
